Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Now that school is out, it’s time to talk about back to school.

“It’s important for every family to go online and actually register for next school year by clicking that button that you are returning,” said District 186 superintendent Jennifer Gill, “but also checking over all of the information that’s in the system to make sure it’s up to date, that we have your right address, your right phone number, your emergency contacts are ready to go. Any information that we need to have you can update before you hit Submit.”

Gill says any physicals or immunizations students need are best handled by your family doctor.

They have not forgotten about school supplies. You can get those free at the district’s second annual back-to-school fair July 30, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., at Scheels Sports Park.

Incoming superintendent Terrance Jordan said it includes “free food, free school supplies from kids entering kindergarten to students entering twelfth grade. It’s going to be outdoors. If the weather is bad, we do have the option to move it inside. That’s one of the things that we’re excited about.”

The first day of class in District 186 is Monday, Aug. 24.
