Oswego, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – She’s spent more than a decade as a State Representative — but now, Stephanie Kifowit wants a higher office.

Kifowit is now at least the fourth Democrat who wants to become the next Illinois Comptroller, now that Susana Mendoza has said she won’t run for that seat again.

Kifowit made her campaign announcement video, sitting at a dining room table.

“This is where all the important conversations happened in my family,” said Kifowit.  “It was at the dining room table that I spent a lot of time with my grandparents as a child of a single mom.  They talked about living through the Depression, and saving every single penny they had to buy their first union-made car.”

Kifowit s a Marine Corp veteran and has worked in the financial sector as a financial planner — both things, she says, should help her.

“Washington is a bit dysfunctional these days, and chaotic,” said Kifowit, in the video.  “Frankly, I think we need a comptroller that has a bit of a backbone.  I’ll be your fiscal drill instructor.  I’ll bring integrity, strength of character, and leadership to the office, to stand up for you — the taxpayers — of the State of Illinois as your next comptroller.”

Democrats in Cook County back Margaret Croke for the job, and Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim and State Senator Karina Villa also want the job.  No Republicans have announced candidacies yet.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
