Cahnman takes another stab at recall

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A member of the Sangamon County Board is again trying to give voters the ability to recall county officials.

Sam Cahnman tells the WTAX Morning Newswatch, “a few thousand” people have signed the petition, which needs 6,359 signatures by Monday. This would place a binding referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot. He says you can download a petition yourself here.

“The reason this came about was after the tragic killing of Sonya Massey, we found out afterward that the elected sheriff at that time, Jack Campbell, was very negligent and ignoring all the red flags in hiring Sean Grayson, the deputy that killed her,” said Cahnman, “and that’s when we found out we have no law that allows us to recall him.” Campbell eventually retired.

“Public opinion polls show that eighty percent of the voters want recall,” adds Cahnman, “and many voters that I talk to are surprised when they find out they don’t have the right to recall.”
