Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – District 186 is giving back to the children in need, through an organization called Compass for Kids. Brandy Stabler representing The Compass for Kids non-profit organization, was on the WTAX Morning NewsWatch discussing the organization.

What is this organization all about?

“We are a not-for-profit serving children in Springfield Public schools District 186 All of the kids are referred to us based on being from a low-income household and having at least one additional risk factor. And we do academic work, socially emotional work, life skills, enrichment, at our school year programming, we serve them dinner before they go home. And then at all of our programs, we have school year programming and summer programming.
We send them home with a bag of shelf stable food for the weekend.”

How much money has been raised so far?

“So far, we have brought in $70,000. That is incredible.
The momentum is there. Now we’ve just got to keep it going.”

Working with children and giving back to those in need, takes a lot of heart. What does this mean to you?

I feel a tremendous amount of passion for this particular mission. And I know the importance, you know, based on my own life of a supportive adult stepping in and kind of feeding positivity to you and just kind of taking care of you and making you feel safe and secure and helping you believe in your own skills and abilities and helping you set dreams”
