Downtown Holiday Walks help businesses persevere after Small Business Saturday snowed out

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Some downtown Springfield businesses have either struggled or folded up in recent years. But for every one that closes, another seems to prosper.

Except on Small Business Saturday, because a snowstorm gave them all a sucker punch. But Willow and Birch owner Jessica Kocurek says she’s persevering.

“It definitely put a little bit of a hindrance in people coming down and shopping with us,” said Kocurek.  “I think carrying our deals through the week, and I know some other businesses have done that as well, and just getting out and shopping and supporting your local community, even if you’re just eating and drinking down here, all the local purchases you make stay in our community, which is great.”

That’s why they still hope to prosper through a series of downtown Holiday Walks organized by Downtown Springfield, Incorporated Wednesday nights and Saturday middays through December 20th.

Many have special themes, deals, and visits by Santa.
