Decatur, Il. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — The Macon County Health Department will host a free car seat check event to raise awareness during Child Passenger Safety Week.

According to our news partners at WAND TV, technicians will be available to help parents and caregivers determine the right seats for their children and show how to correctly install and use those seats.

The health department claims vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children. NHTSA research shows 46% of car seats are misused.

The health department said common issues include children being in the wrong type of car seat and seats being incorrectly installed.

The car seat check event will be at the Macon County Health Department on September 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
