GOP: Governor is afraid Trump’s tactics will work

(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Before the governor and other leaders Tuesday again protested President Trump’s plans for the Illinois National Guard in Chicago, the Illinois Freedom Caucus had its say.

The caucus chairman, State Rep Chris Miller (pictured) (R-Hindsboro), said Gov. JB Pritzker should quit lying and admit crime is a problem. “I can’t wait till President Trump comes here and cleans this mess up,” Miller said. “I guarantee you that JB Pritzker and (Chicago mayor) Brandon Johnson don’t give two hoots about your safety and security. Otherwise, this whole thing would look different.”

Miller said be it the National Guard or not, he just wants a solution.

“If they told me the Easter bunny could come in and fix this,” Miller said, “I’d say, come on down and let’s get this done.”

And State Rep. Martin McLaughlin (R-Barrington) said he takes issue with reporters saying President Trump is “threatening” to send the Guard to Chicago.

“I’m trying to understand why an American in uniform standing on a street corner, trying to protect other Americans, is a threat to anyone,” McLaughlin said. “I think it is a threat to those who have failed, and the worst thing they are worried about is that it will be an immediate success, and it will be a mark against their poor efforts into pub safety.”
