Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield home that caught fire during the morning rush time period is considered a total loss.

Springfield Assistant Fire Chief Julie Plunk says crews were on the scene of the fire in the 1600 block of South 6th Street, near the intersection with Cedar Street, for roughly three hours after first being called around 6:00 a.m. Monday.

Plunk says the home was vacant at the time, and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the third floor of what she called a “large residential building” when the first of eight fire units responded.

The home is considered a total loss.  A cause was not disclosed.  No assistance to residents needed to be provided.  No one was hurt.
