Springfield, IL (WAND) – A District 186 staff member arrested for battery on campus has resigned.

Lanphier High School assistant principal Christopher Hampsey was arrested at the school in September after allegedly battering a student.

Hampsey was placed on administrative leave after being accused of putting his hands on a student. At the time, he was arrested but not formally charged.

A spokesperson for District 186 told WAND News that Hampsey resigned, effective Oct. 31. The district was unable to provide further details, given the incident was a “personnel matter.”

District 186 also sent the following statement to WAND News:

“The district conducted a thorough internal review in line with our established policies and procedures, and the district continues to cooperate with entities investigating the matter further.”

Hampsey is set to make his next court appearance Jan. 12, according to Sangamon County court records.
