LLCC selects assistant to become head men’s basketball coach

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield native who has been an assistant coach for the Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) Loggers men’s basketball program has been promoted to the top job.

According to a news release, Ben Kramer was recently named head coach.  According to archives, Kramer replaces Chuck Shanklin.

Kramer had been an assistant coach in the program for the last 15 years, and helped “to maintain a competitive and student-centered program,” according to the news release.

In addition to coaching with the Loggers, and spending time before that at Champaign Central and Urbana university High Schools as well as Calvary Academy in Springfield, Kramer has been a freshman and JV football coach at his alma mater, Springfield High School, where he also serves as a college and student council advisor, and co-advisor of the National Honor Society.  He’s also chair of the Springfield High School Instructional Leadership Team, and has been a summer school administrator in District 186.

“I am truly honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation that has been established here,” said Kramer, in a news release.  “LLCC has been a place I am proud to call home for many years, and I am excited to lead our student-athletes with a focus on growth and accountability.”
