Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Overnight storms didn’t do the damage or cause the problems they caused in other parts of Central Illinois, but the Springfield area did see some problems nonetheless.

According to storm reports and data from the National Weather Service in Lincoln, there are reports of damage throughout Maroa in Macon County.  A township building had its roof blown off, a camper was blown owner, crop damage was reported, and approximately 100 trees were blown down.  Damage also was reported to a solar farm on the community’s southern edge, to the point where it was all but destroyed.

Other parts of Macon County also had some damage, estimated to have occurred around 3:00am Tuesday.  Under 200 customers of Ameren Illinois in the area remained without power as of 11:45am Tuesday.

Power was also reported out in Mount Pulaski, causing school district officials there to cancel classes for the day after originally anticipating a delayed start.  According to Ameren’s outage map, only two customers remained without service as of our deadline, down from several hundred when school was called off.

Other storm damage and wind gusts of 50 to 70 miles per hour were reported into the Peoria and Galesburg areas.

After some isolated rain forecast to the south Tuesday, there’s no rain in the forecast the rest of the week.
